It's a weird dance. Women definitely want roles in movies and tv shows. Unfortunately, there are men in positions of power that can help them get these things. That's a recipe for all kinds of disasters. I was watching this very early episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. It must have been the year 2000. The manager character Jeff (who now has his own metoo kind of scandal) anyhow he asks Larry for this woman's number. larry asks him why. Jeff says, "Representation." Larry rolls his eyes. Jeff rolls his eyes. They both know Jeff wants to sleep with her. That's why he wants to "represent" her as a manager or agent or whatever he is. Cut to, Jeff sleeping with her. She's happy, he's happy. They both got what they anted (she gets a part in the Vagina Monologues). The episode wasn't even about this--it was just one bit of the episode. But you see, that cannot be played for comedy any more because we all know what a disgustingly fucked up dance this is. It's no longer funny, so we've made that progress at least.
