Well, he's aligned himself with Republicans and as you know they stand for no gay rights no choice for women no rights for trans people. These three positions are Putin's positions and in fact his stated motivation for taking over Ukraine, to save Russia from "woke" values. So given that is who he is, it's not really such a surprise.
