Well, that’s how you do it. I read your piece because I got a notification that said you followed me. That is the way to introduce yourself to this crazy place. And then you have to write like mad. Like mad, woman! All the time. Highlight other people’s stories and make comments. They will love you for that and they will become your devoted reader. Then don’t limit yourself to your own voice — write some pieces in a character’s voice and play around with the notion of authorship here on Medium. Sex is the most profitable subject but it can’t be erotica. The second most profitable subject is life lessons on how to get your head in the right space to become the next billionaire. I know, gross. But I’ve written those. I’ve enjoyed writing those because hey we are all trying to improve all the time, right? Personal growth is awesome.
And believe it or not, poetry is super profitable. Bet you never thought you’d hear that. There are guys that are getting ten thousand combined claps a day for their poems. At minimum that is $300.
Short stories are a waste of time, nobody reads them.
If you want to write some fiction, twist it into the form of a blog. Make it about something techy — that’s the third most profitable category by the way. I think the history of Medium is that is was first for computer programmers.
I know nothing about tech but I’ve written all kinds of articles about the little I do know. I realized I can write about the frustrations of using tech, not programming it.
Anyhow, I know…I got on here and it was a tough start. Why the heck did I keep going? Crazy I guess.
But something about your writing spoke to me — your honesty and your ability to take a contrarian position. So I want to encourage you some more!
